SYSC Coach and Parent Information for
Recreational Play
No standings are kept for
U-6, U-8, or U-10 age teams. Emphasis is on fair play,
skills development, positive attitudes, and sportsmanship toward
other players, coaches, and referees. Teams (players and
coaches) should exchange handshakes and “good game” praise
after each game. Participation medals or trophies may be given.
On game day:
-The first team playing
on any field is responsible for putting up goals/nets and
flags located in storeroom
-The last team on field for day is responsible for taking down
goals/nets and flags and taking to storeroom.
No one may ever hang on the Goal
Posts. Shin guards MUST be worn at games AND practices - a
child not wearing shin guards will not be allowed to practice.
Shin guards should be worn under socks.
Weather cancellations -
listen to KWED - we will notify the radio station as soon it is
determined to cancel the games.
Every player must be given 50% of
game playing time unless there is illness, injury, or a
discipline problem (disciplinary actions should be discussed
with parent after game).
Practices can be held at
Briesemeister Middle School, other school campuses or other
Board approved locations. Practices should not be held on
Fields 1 and 2 (the fields located closest to Hwy. 46).
Practices can be twice weekly before games start and may be
reduced to once weekly if desired after the playing season
begins. Encourage parents to attend practices.
Coaches should not leave practice fields until all children are
picked up.
Request that parents notify
coaches if a child will not be present at a scheduled game.
Coaches - hand out rules of play
to parents for your age players (located in coaches packet). The
more parents understand, the better.
Neither coaches or parents should
yell or criticize referees. Our young referees are in
training and even our most experienced referees sometimes
don’t see what you see. If you have a question or
concern ask for an explanation at half-time or after a game, but
never argue with a referee. If a problem persists notify a
SYSC Board member. If a bad attitude is noted in a
referee, please notify a Board member as well- we will provide
constructive criticism as required.
On a very serious note, verbal
abuse of a referee will result in disciplinary actions against a
coach or parent. Very strict rules apply regarding verbal
abuse or physical assault. SYSC takes this matter very
seriously.
